The Village of Chenequa is located about 30 miles west of downtown Milwaukee in Waukesha County in what is known as the "Lake Country Area". The name "Chenequa" comes from the Potawatomi Indian word for "pine," which refers to a rare Southern Wisconsin grove of white pine. Why Choose Chenequa For Your Next Home?

Chenequa is an exclusive residential community known for its tree lined roads. The Chenequa Village has been named a "Tree City, USA" each year since 1985, and is one of the smallest communities so designated. Chenequa measures only about 4.5 square miles (1 sq mile of that is water) with a population of approximately 600. It is also the 2nd wealthiest incorporated community in Wisconsin. It has long been the summer destination for historically wealthy families that goes back generations to the days of horse-drawn carriages and classic country estates.

The Chenequa Community & Its History

Land use planning has been a key goal of the Village of Chenequa since its creation in 1928. Chenequa was incorporated to provide fire and police protection and plan for orderly growth while protecting the land and lakes. Village zoning requires each non-lake lot to have a minimum of 5 acres, and lake lots require from 2 to 4 1/2 acres depending on lake frontage. Chenequa is devoted to solely residence purposes so as to afford its citizens the peace and quiet and restfulness unobtainable in the city; therefore, there are no businesses located within the Village.

The Village of Chenequa is within the Arrowhead school district and there is also has a new Lutheran High school nearby.
