Is Wednesday or Thursday really the best day to list your home? We analyzed 1,086 sold homes across four local school districts to find out.
When you're getting ready to sell your home, timing is one of the biggest questions.
Should you list on a Monday to get a jump on the week? Wait until Thursday to catch buyers before the weekend? Or does the day you list even matter?
Rather than relying on conventional wisdom, we decided to look at the numbers.
We analyzed 2025 MLS sold-property data across four local school districts: Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine, Oconomowoc, and Pewaukee. Our goal was simple: determine whether the day a home first hits the market is associated with how quickly it reaches pending status.
And the results were interesting.
Wednesday and Thursday Came Out on Top
Across the four school districts, we analyzed 1,086 single-family home sales from 2025 with usable listing-to-pending dates.
Here's what we found:
| Day Listed | Average Days to Pending | Median Days to Pending | Pending Within 14 Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 31.06 | 15 | 49.64% |
| Tuesday | 32.04 | 13 | 52.10% |
| Wednesday | 28.40 | 11 | 54.50% |
| Thursday | 28.57 | 11 | 61.34% |
| Friday | 31.67 | 15 | 46.94% |
| Saturday | 43.55 | 13 | 53.12% |
| Sunday | 42.00 | 17.5 | 43.18% |
The standout finding? More than 61% of homes listed on Thursdays reached pending status within 14 days.
That compares with approximately 47% of homes listed on Fridays.
Wednesday was also strong, producing the lowest average time to pending status at 28.40 days.
While the differences don't prove that the listing day itself causes a home to sell faster, they do show why understanding local market patterns can be valuable.
But Here's Where It Gets Really Interesting: Not Every Community Behaves the Same
One of the biggest takeaways from our research was that the strongest listing day wasn't necessarily the same in every school district.
And that's important.
A homeowner in Hartland or Delafield shouldn't automatically assume that the same listing strategy will produce identical results in Oconomowoc or Pewaukee.
Here's what our analysis revealed.
Arrowhead School District: Tuesday Stood Out
In the Arrowhead Union High School District, Tuesday-listed homes had a median time to pending status of just 10 days.
Approximately 59% reached pending status within 14 days.
By comparison, Thursday and Friday listings each had a median of 16 days.
For sellers in the Arrowhead area, that's an interesting difference worth considering when developing a listing launch plan.
Kettle Moraine School District: Thursday Had an Advantage
Kettle Moraine told a different story.
Homes listed on Thursdays had a median time to pending status of just 7 days.
Even more interesting:
-
50.77% reached pending status within 7 days.
-
66.15% reached pending status within 14 days.
Wednesday was also competitive, with a median of 9 days to pending.
For homeowners in the Kettle Moraine School District, the data suggests that midweek listing launches deserve a closer look.
Oconomowoc School District: Wednesday Was the Standout
Of the four districts we studied, Oconomowoc showed one of the clearest weekday differences.
Homes listed on Wednesdays reached pending status in an average of 21.67 days, with a median of just 7 days.
More than 54% reached pending status within one week.
Thursday listings also performed well, with a median of 9 days.
By comparison, Friday listings had a median of 17 days to pending status.
That doesn't mean Friday is necessarily a bad day to list in Oconomowoc. It does suggest that local listing patterns deserve more attention than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Pewaukee School District: Tuesday and Thursday Performed Well
In Pewaukee, Tuesday listings had a median time to pending status of 6 days.
Approximately 68% reached pending status within 14 days.
Thursday was also strong, with a median of 8.5 days and nearly 67% reaching pending status within two weeks.
Again, the local results were different from the overall four-district averages.
Why Does This Matter When Selling Your Home?
Because selling a home involves more than choosing a price and putting a sign in the yard.
The timing of your listing is one variable worth evaluating as part of a broader marketing strategy.
But there's an important distinction: our research identifies patterns, not guarantees.
The data doesn't tell us that changing a listing from Friday to Thursday would automatically produce a faster offer.
Other factors: including the home's asking price, location, condition, features, and the season—may influence how quickly it moves toward a sale.
What the data does show is that different communities have different patterns.
And those differences are worth understanding.
Local Real Estate Expertise Should Be Backed by Local Data
The Lake Country real estate market isn't one single, uniform market.
Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine, Oconomowoc, and Pewaukee each have their own market activity, price ranges, and buyer dynamics.
That's why we believe homeowners deserve more than generic advice about the best day to list a house.
They deserve an approach informed by what has actually happened in their community.
By analyzing local MLS sold-property records, we can identify patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed.
For example, our 2025 research found that:
-
Wednesday had the lowest average time to pending status across the four districts.
-
Thursday had the highest percentage of listings reaching pending status within 14 days.
-
Arrowhead showed stronger Tuesday results.
-
Kettle Moraine showed strong Thursday results.
-
Oconomowoc stood out on Wednesdays.
-
Pewaukee performed well on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
These findings don't replace a detailed analysis of an individual home. They add another layer of information to the conversation.
So, What's the Best Day to List Your Home in Lake Country?
Based on the 2025 data, Wednesday and Thursday are worth serious consideration.
But the best listing strategy for your home shouldn't be determined by the calendar alone.
Your specific neighborhood, school district, price range, competition, and time of year all matter.
And that's where a truly local approach makes a difference.

About This Research
This analysis used Waukesha County MLS single-family sold-property records with sold dates between January 1 and December 31, 2025, covering the Arrowhead UHS, Kettle Moraine, Oconomowoc, and Pewaukee school districts.
The Oconomowoc and Oconomowoc Area school district labels were combined for this analysis. One record with an invalid negative listing-to-pending interval was excluded, leaving 1,086 usable records.
Time to pending was calculated as calendar days between the MLS Listing Date and Pending Date. Pending Date is not necessarily the exact date an offer was accepted. The results are descriptive historical comparisons, not evidence that listing on a particular weekday causes a faster sale. Individual results will vary.
